Really Cool, Really Big News


Pictured here is one of my two tickets to THE DAYTONA 500. The coolest part about the tickets is that I got them for free!!! I won a contest put on by Toyota Racing, so I get to go to the 54th annual Daytona 500 for free! My picks for who will win will come in a later post, but for now I just wanted to share one of the coolest things to happen to me

The #3, Childress, Big E, and Austin Dillon

What's in a number? For some nothing at all, for others everything. Some people see nothing in a number but a digit or an age, others see a driver or football/baseball/hockey/basketball player. The number I am referring to is the # 3 made famous by Dale Earnhardt Sr. in the NASCAR Winston(now Nextel)Cup series, and thought by some to be retired by NASCAR or by Richard Childress(Big E's car owner and friend/hunting buddy)but neither was true as NASCAR does not retire numbers(hence the numbers 43, Richard Petty, and 45, Adam Petty, both run.) Richard Childress said in 2001 that he would not run # 3 again and while yes we have seen two or three times where Dale Earnhardt Jr. has run the number(02 Daytona-win, 02 Charlotte-36th, and 10 Daytona-win) most people thought that those were OK to do because Jr. was driving the same number that he drove to two(2) Busch(now Nationwide) championships(1998,99) and he was driving the car as a tribute to his father. Ideas for next year

I have been trying to figure out ways to post more on here; and I don't mean just like "Hi I'm still here" posts so I was thinking I would take my love for NASCAR, my knowledge of the sports history, and this seasons schedule(hopefully with some interesting twists and turns) and do some(hopefully)interesting posts. So the plan right now is shortly after the first of the year I will have a post with the entire NASCAR Cup schedule which will include the date, track, whether it is a points race or not, the defending winner, and(when possible) the race name. Then, before each race I plan on a "history post" where I will pull a race from the NASCAR archives either on the date, or at the track. After the race I will do a recap post, where I will talk about the race, with highlights on the winner, whoever ran good but didn't get the win, and possibly the driver who didn't perform to their capabilities.
